SOCIAL EVENTS

Visit of the famous clockwork of the Zytglogge tower

After the scientific sessions on Thursday there will be the possibility to visit the famous clockwork of the Zytglogge tower. Normally there is no public access to the clockwork, so don't miss this opportunity. The visit will be in two groups. The participants not attending the general assembly of the SBMP/ASPM should plan to be at the tower at 16.30h. Those attending the general assembly, one hour later. To get to the Zytglogge tower from the Lindenhof hospital, take bus nr. 12 at stop "Länggasse" and get off at stop "Zytglogge".

The Zytglogge - one of Berne's landmarks

In the city's first fortress, built around 1220, it served as a watchtower and gateway.
From 1256 to the 15th century, it was used as a prison. After the fire on May 14th, 1405, it was rebuilt completely. A bill from 1438 about having the clockwork repaired seems to confirm that a first musical clock was already in use then.

Between 1467 and 1483 an "Astrolabium", an astronomical clock, was installed. The tower received its present name, "Zytglogge" (clock tower).

The clockwork was built in 1530 by Caspar Brunner from Nürnberg.
Its current appearence was established in 1770/71 by Niklaus Hebler.

Dinner and night out on the Gurten

After the visit of the Zytglogge tower, you'll have to make your way to the Gurten. Take tram nr. 9 at the stop "Zytglogge", direction "Wabern". Stay on to the stop "Gurtenbahn" (approx. 20 min tram ride), from where it's a short walk (200m) to the lower station of the cable car to the Gurten (Download map).

Panorama

On the Gurten, take another short walk to enjoy a spectacular view of the Bernese alps (if the weather permits...). To enjoy the view of the city of Bern, you don't have to walk at all....

KulmDinner will start at 20.00h at the hotel "Gurten-Kulm". This is also the place where we will hopefully find some time to celebrate the 40th anniversary of our society. Later at night the cable car and tram will take you back to your hotel.

INDUSTRIAL EXHIBITION

The area of the industrial exhibition is situated right next to the lecture hall. The exhibition will start on Thursday, October 14th, 9 o'clock and end on Friday afternoon. There should be ample opportunity to visit the exhibition. Please keep in mind that the industrial exhibition is an important part of the meeting. It is an opportunity to learn about new products and to share ideas with our industrial partners, most of whom are also acting as sponsors of our society and meetings. So far, the following companies have registered for the industrial exhibition:

PROCEEDINGS

As usual, the manuscripts of all contributions to this meeting will be published in a proceedings booklet. This booklet will have an ISBN number. Please use the template provided to layout your manuscript.
Manuscripts should be submitted in printer-ready form as a hardcopy. In addition, we kindly ask you to submit an electronic version of your papers (preferably in MS Word for Windows). Please send your contributions to Hans Neuenschwander, Radio-Onkologie, Lindenhofspital, Postfach, 3001 Bern . All manuscripts must be delivered by Thursday, October 14th at the latest. At the meeting, they can be handed over to the staff at the information desk.

Guidelines for authors (cf. template)

Papers may be written in german, french or english. All papers written in german or french should also include an english abstract.
