SUMMARY:SSRMP Education Course on Medical Physics in Nuclear Medicine 2026
DESCRIPTION:The aim of the course is to review the physics of nuclear medicine in line with the SSRPM training/education program for the certification of medical physicists, in compliance with Article 36 of the Swiss Radiological Protection Ordinance.\nThe course will focus on tasks, duties, and responsibilities relevant for the SSRPM-certified medical physicist in order to give an appropriate support for nuclear medicine applications. Moreover, the course counts for the 3rd week of training/education on radiation protection required for the medical physics Swiss certification.\nVenue: Basel, University Hospital (USB)\nDate: 13th , 14th and 15th of October 2026\nRegistration fee: 150 CHF for SSRMP Members and 200 CHF for Non-members (please the QR code attached to your registration confirmation to pay the registration fee)\nRegistration will be open until September 15.\nPlease take note that the course can be attended by a maximum number of 20 participants. Participants’ registration will be confirmed after the payment of the registration fee\n \nRegistration ( https://ssrpm.ch/?page_id=5803&preview=true )\n \nPreliminary Program\nTuesday October 13th  Basics of physics and radioprotection in nuclear medicine \n\n\n\n9:00 – 9:10\nWelcome and General Information\n\n\n9:10 – 9:40\nNuclear Medicine in personalised medicine\n\n\n9:40 – 9:55\nRoles and responsibilities in a nuclear medicine department\n\n\n9:55 – 10:15\nMedical physics in nuclear medicine: Task of the medical physicist\n\n\n10:15 – 10:45\nIntroduction to physics in nuclear medicine\n\n\n10:45 – 11:30\nCoffee\n\n\n11:30 – 12:00\nIntroduction to nuclear medicine devices (imaging and non-imaging)\n\n\n12:00 – 12:30\nRadiation protection management in nuclear medicine\n\n\n12:30 – 13:30\nLunch\n\n\n13:30 – 14:00\nDosimetry in nuclear medicine & Radioprotection of patients\n\n\n14:00 – 14:30\nDose optimisation and dose reference levels\n\n\n14:30 – 15:15\nBreak\n\n\n15:15 – 15:45\nImage quality in nuclear medicine (PET, SPECT and CT)\n\n\n15:45 – 16:15\nAcceptance and stability control of imaging and non-imaging devices\n\n\n\n \nWednesday October 14th   Practical-1: Radioprotection and image quality (IQ) optimization\n\n\n\n9:30 – 10:00\nPresentation of practicals\n\n\n10:00 – 11:00\nGroup A: Radiation protection: contamination, NM department plans and design\nGroup B: Radiation protection: risk assessment, radiological events and CIRS\n\n\n11:00 – 11:30\nCoffee\n\n\n11:30 – 12:30\nGroup A: Radiation protection: risk assessment, radiological events and CIRS\nGroup B: Radiation protection: contamination, NM department plans and design\n\n\n12:30 – 13:30\nLunch\n\n\n13:30 – 17:00\nSPECT Practical (IQ assessment and optimization / phantom study)\n\n\n 13:30 – 13:45\nIntroduction\n\n\n13:45 – 14:15\nPhantom preparation (30 min) (group A and B together)\n\n\n14:15 – 14:45\nGroup A : SPECT acquisitions (30 min) / Group B : NM service visit (30 min)\n\n\n14:45 – 15:15\nGroup A : NM service visit (30 min) / Group B : SPECT acquisitions (30 min)\n\n\n15:15 – 15:45\nBreak\n\n\n15:45 – 17:00\nAnalysis of data (75 min) (group A and B together)\n\n\n\n \nThursday October 15th  Practical-2: Patient dosimetry in NM therapy\n\n\n\n9:00 – 09:30\nPresentation of practicals\n\n\n09:30 – 10:30\nGroup A: Dosimetry: patient-specific dosimetry for therapy (case of Lu-177)\nGroup B: Dosimetry: tools and practical examples\n\n\n10:30 – 11:00\nCoffee\n\n\n11:00 – 12:00\nGroup A: Dosimetry: tools and practical examples\nGroup B: Dosimetry: patient-specific dosimetry for therapy (case of Lu-177)\n\n\n12:00 – 12:15\nClosing\n\n\n\n \n \n \n
